Alvin was my college counsellor when I was applying to American colleges in 2023. I only applied to the top colleges in the US where admission rates were below 10%. I came to Alvin with an average portfolio, but we worked tirelessly together to transform my average portfolio into a really unique portfolio that would stand out among the rest yet tell the true story about who I was as a person and what I was passionate about. I’ll always remember Alvin for putting in his 101% in helping me, being extremely patient with me to read some of the documents that were almost 100 pages long, and going so far as to meet during even midnight hours to discuss. Overall, what stood out to me most is the very different thinking Alvin brings to the table and that thinking is what helps him churn out applications that are unique and completely different to others, he is able to customise my application to stand out yet remain completely unique to myself. Any other college counselling organisation would have resulted in an application similar to about 30% of students. But with Alvin I am convinced my application was unique to myself and similar to none of the applications. Outside of applying to college, Alvin was a great teacher to me and I felt that he really cared about his students. He always took the time to really get to know me as a person, and I felt comfortable in sharing about my life with him, something so important in college applications to write a personal story and let colleges know who you really are. Alvin is one of the best writers I have met and his command of vocabulary and language is extremely impressive. I picked up many powerful writing skills from him, and he taught me critical interpersonal skills like presenting myself to organisations among other life lessons that I am sure will go a long way in my life. I will always be grateful to Alvin for his guidance and the lessons he taught me, lessons I will cherish, and of course for his invaluable help in securing me my dream of studying in a top US college, something he played an indispensable role in.
